“Phenomena” Closing Party for Daniel Adkins
November 6, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
FreeRadiant Space is pleased to present a pop up art event at a new location, Cromastudios. Just in time for Halloween, Daniel Adkins presented his darker artwork in a powerful show embracing the shadow. Join us for the last night of this beautiful exhibition featuring live acoustic music.
“I have been drawn to the spirit world for as long as I can remember. As a child growing up in a small city in southern Virginia, I became fascinated with ghost stories, grim folklore, and Ouija boards. Over time, this obsession morphed into an earnest desire to learn as much as possible about the occult. As an artist, I have focused on these themes in order to communicate the side of the emotional spectrum that many shy away from: grief, loss, pain, and existential terror. My paintings are meant to depolarize dark from light, narrowing the space between the two by incorporating the same playfulness, excitement, and whimsy that I felt as a child reading spooky stories. I believe that there is life-affirming beauty in darkness and only by embracing the shadow can we fully understand our light.”
