SUMMARY:"Alchemy Tunnel" Saturday Viewings Extended
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, we have extended “Alchemy Tunnel!” It has been amazing to have thousands of people come through the installation and hope that many more can still come and see this stunning piece of art! \nALCHEMY TUNNEL is an inviting and transformative art installation that opened at Radiant Space on October 5th\, 2019.  Similar to repeating mantras in meditation\, Laurie Shapiro uses repetitive imagery from her imagination and nature to create this cohesive and fully immersive experience.   \nA mini bazaar will house limited edition prints\, handmade goods by the artist\, and behind-the-scenes documentation for all of your holiday shopping needs!  Hollywood screenwriter\, director\, and photographer Pen Densham documented Shapiro’s creative journey and believes it is “An enveloping experience that touches the unconscious. It is almost like stepping into a living dream.” (Photograph by Pen Densham) \nCome hang out in the installation\, meditate and gain inspiration.  \nGuests must take off their shoes to enter\, or put on shoe protectors. No high heels inside.  \nThe entrance fee will be waived for purchases made for more than $20.00 inside the installation at the time of your visit.  \nTicketed special events throughout the exhibition.  \nNovember 17th 7:00pm- Soundbath with Ava \nNovember 18th 7:00pm- Yoga and Soundbath  \nNovember 24th- 6:00pm- Modular Soundbath  \nMore about the artist: \nShapiro – a Jewish female artist\, conceptualized this sukkot-like rainbow-colored installation at the start of 2019 and has been working on it all year.   “Creating artwork is meditative and healing for me; I hope people give themselves the space to find peace and clarity inside of this work\,” says Shapiro of her intentions.   \nThe main components of this installation are six “rainbow panels” which wrap from one wall\, over the ceiling\, to the other wall\, forming a tunnel.  Each panel is a different main color (red\, orange\, yellow\, green\, blue\, purple) and connects as a single piece.  Shapiro’s process involves screen printing drawn images\, sewing\, and layers of water-based paints. Lighting in this installation is sponsored by LIFX – wifi linked\, color-changing bulbs which enable the landscape of ALCHEMY TUNNEL to change over seconds.   \n

SUMMARY:Georgi Kay Music Show
DESCRIPTION:Grammy nominated\, multi award-winning singer/songwriter Georgi Kay prides herself in creating visually captivating soundscapes crafted from live loops layered with synths\, deep bass\, intricate beats\, percussive patterns and vocal chops sourced from her own voice.
A unique combination of hauntingly beautiful lyrics and self-created dystopian electronic soundscapes weave the listener into a lonely yet visually and sonically vivid world where darkness and euphoria reign side by side.

However\, for this particular night – Georgi will be performing an intimate yet equally mesmerising acoustic set. Going back to her roots as an acoustic singer/songwriter\, prepare yourselves for a beyond raw\, rare and immensely special evening of beautifully delivered brutal honesties and harsh truths. \nThis show will ensue inside Laurie Shapiro’s “Alchemy Tunnel”installation. With 1000s of Angelenos coming to view this artwork\, this is a special experience to listen to live music with no more than 30 people inside this magical installation. \nDoors at 8:30pm \nMusic at 9:00pm please show up on time.

SUMMARY:Vegan Tapas Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Radiant Space is pleased to have an intimate vegan meal inside of “Alchemy Tunnel\,” Laurie Shapiro’s newest installation. Join us for a community centered meal\, with live music on guitar by Marco Alejandro. Break bread with new and old friends. Please be prepared to sit on cushions in a circle to best view the art\, connect with others and enjoy the music. \nMenu: \nPotato omelettes\, gazpacho\, montaditos\, Arros al Forn (similar to a paella) cheese\, olives\, salad\, Spanish beer and wine! \nTo encourage a sustainable culture in our space\, we encourage and welcome you to bring your own dishware. We will of course provide compostable ones as well. \nPresale tickets: $40 must be purchased by November 5th. \nAbout The Chef: \nI am a Catalan chef. For us\, food is really important. It’s the moment when you get together with the people you love after a busy day. Every time people meet up\, there is always food involved (and some drinks like beer lol). I grew up in a household where my family was always making time to meet during the weekend with my extended family to have dinner together and spend the day with them. Our food is really tasty\, we don’t rush the cooking time\, we love to slow cook all of our meals to get the most flavor. Every time we cook\, we do it from our heart. \nThe dishes that we are going to have on this special dinner\, are really traditional. In Barcelona we all grew up eating a Spanish omelette filled with potatoes for dinner and eating paella on Sunday’s when we could all be together. The montaditos are something that you usually eat when we go out\, at a bar\, you order a drink and one of these comes with it. \nA note from the Chef \n“The first time I saw a sample of Laurie’s art\, I immediately thought about the modernist architect Gaudí\, a catalán architect with an individualized one-of-a-kind style. Why? The way that Laurie put together all the structures\, creates different patterns\, it reminds me of some of Gaudi’s works. He used to say that there is no better structure than the human body or trees to create art and that’s what Laurie did when she created the Alchemy Tunnel. It reminds me of a wood full of trees and colors. Gaudí used different styles on his art pieces\, he observed for a while different styles around the world from Indian to Moroccan architecture and that’s where he got his inspiration from. The colorful tunnel has tones of this cultural mix.”

SUMMARY:"Phenomena" Closing Party for Daniel Adkins
DESCRIPTION:Radiant Space is pleased to present a pop up art event at a new location\, Cromastudios. Just in time for Halloween\, Daniel Adkins presented his darker artwork in a powerful show embracing the shadow. Join us for the last night of this beautiful exhibition featuring live acoustic music. \n“I have been drawn to the spirit world for as long as I can remember. As a child growing up in a small city in southern Virginia\, I became fascinated with ghost stories\, grim folklore\, and Ouija boards. Over time\, this obsession morphed into an earnest desire to learn as much as possible about the occult. As an artist\, I have focused on these themes in order to communicate the side of the emotional spectrum that many shy away from: grief\, loss\, pain\, and existential terror. My paintings are meant to depolarize dark from light\, narrowing the space between the two by incorporating the same playfulness\, excitement\, and whimsy that I felt as a child reading spooky stories. I believe that there is life-affirming beauty in darkness and only by embracing the shadow can we fully understand our light.” \nBio \n Daniel Adkins was born in Martinsville\, Virginia in 1989. He became interested in creative expression from an early age\, but focused mainly on drawing and songwriting in his adolescence. Daniel began painting in adulthood and developed a distinctive style early on in his work. He currently resides in Los Angeles\, California with his partner Liz and their son Wolfe. \nLocated near Koreatown and Downtown LA (very Central) Entrance through the alley. \nCromastudios \n2512 James M Wood Blvd LA 90006 \nProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset

SUMMARY:Alchemy Tunnel Saturday Viewings
DESCRIPTION:ALCHEMY TUNNEL is an inviting and transformative art installation opening at Radiant Space on October 5th\, 2019. Similar to repeating mantras in meditation\, Laurie Shapiro uses repetitive imagery from her imagination and nature to create this cohesive and fully immersive experience. \nShapiro – a Jewish female artist\, conceptualized this sukkot-like rainbow-colored installation at the start of 2019 and has been working on it all year. \nA mini bazaar will house limited edition prints\, handmade goods by the artist\, and behind-the-scenes documentation. Hollywood screenwriter\, director\, and photographer Pen Densham documented Shapiro’s creative journey and believes it is “An enveloping experience that touches the unconscious. It is almost like stepping into a living dream.” (Photograph by Pen Densham) \nALCHEMY TUNNEL will start its journey at Radiant Space\, a multimedia gallery in Los Angeles\, and from there will tour different cities. Shapiro’s work has caught the eyes of thousands. We are thrilled to have her back at Radiant Space and excited about all of the special events including sound baths\, yoga classes\, meals\, talks\, and performances curated by Olivia Mia Orozco that will all occur inside the installation. \nOpen for free Saturdays 12-3 pm and by appointment. Ticketed special events throughout the exhibition. \nGuests must take off their shoes to enter\, or put on shoe protectors. No high heels inside. \nOctober 11th 8:00pm- Comedy Performance with Interviews from Shapiro\nOctober 19th 8:00pm- La Sandunga Live Theater Performance\nOctober 20th 6:00pm and 7:30pm- Modular Sound Baths\nNovember 13th- 8:00pm- Gaudi Themed Vegan Spanish Meal\nNovember 16th 8:00pm- Georgi Kay Musical Performance \n

SUMMARY:"Phenomena" A Solo Exhibition by Daniel Adkins
DESCRIPTION:Address will be available two days before the event. Email mia@radiantspacela.com for more information. \nI have been drawn to the spirit world for as long as I can remember. I believe that there is life-affirming beauty in darkness and only by embracing the shadow can we fully understand our light. \nBio \n Daniel Adkins was born in Martinsville\, Virginia in 1989. He became interested in creative expression from an early age\, but focused mainly on drawing and songwriting in his adolescence. Daniel began painting in adulthood and developed a distinctive style early on in his work. He currently resides in Los Angeles\, California with his partner Liz and their son Wolfe.  \n

SUMMARY:Vegan New England Dinner Inside Alexandra Carter's Latest Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate gourmet dinner inside Alexandra Carter’s latest exhibition\, “Berries for Baubo.” Carter comes from a family of cranberry farmers in New England. The berry is a repeated icon in the artist’s visual lexicon: the fruit is like a garnet ambrosia\, an exalted potion that seeps through all the works and intoxifies its subjects. Photographs of berries and botanical illustrations replace and adorn parts of the female body. Breasts become globular appendages that bubble up\, guzzle down\, shrivel\, leak\, and lactate. Carter also uses cranberry as a medium; in some of the works the juice stains antique linens\, connecting the mark to an intimate bodily history. \nAppetizers: \n-Vegan clam chowder \n-Lobstah Cold Cake \nMain:  \n– Baked mac and cheese  \nDessert: \n-Apple Loaf with cranberries  \nBeverages: \n-Cranberry Cocktail  \nPlease email info@radiantspacela.com to inform us of any food allergies.\nTicket sales close September 17th. \nABOUT \n\nAlexandra Carter’s latest body of work explores fertility in terms of agriculture and the female body. Her paintings\, made with layers of puddled pigment and collaged imagery on translucent drafting film\, mimic explosive\, liquid bodies splashing out of their own skins. Influenced by folklore and mythology\, she quotes deities of jest\, filth\, lust\, and light. Baubo\, the exhibition’s fitting namesake\, personifies the celebratory nature of the approaching harvest season\, alongside a certain burlesque attitude. SUMMARY:Alexandra Carter "Berries for Baubo" Opening Party
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the opening reception of “Berries for Baubo” on Saturday\, September 14 from 8-10pm. \nAlexandra Carter’s latest body of work explores fertility in terms of agriculture and the female body. Women perform a sumptuous dance between maiden\, mother\, and crone. Wanton figures of myth and fairytale embroil themselves within the monstrous feminine and the maternal grotesque. \nCarter comes from a family of cranberry farmers in New England. \nAlexandra Carter (b. 1985 in Boston) lives and works in Los Angeles.
