SUMMARY:Psychedelic Walk-in Installation at Radiant Space
DESCRIPTION:Radiant Space is thrilled to start 2018 with a floor-to-ceiling interactive psychedelic textile cave by Laurie Shapiro. Shapiro spent over 1000 hours sewing by hand and painting the ceiling and wall segments of “Before You Were Born.” The show will also include a selection of recent mixed media paintings that seamlessly flow within the environment. \nOne could spend hours mesmerized by the details in the paintings and the visceral feelings evoked by the provocative imagery. Throughout the month of January\, Radiant Space will host dance\, music\, yoga\, lectures and other gatherings inside the installation. \nThis is the second showing of “Before You Were Born\,” which was previously installed at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles during a three month residency in Spring 2017. \nRadiant Space invites you to experience the opening of Shapiro’s fully immersive artwork on January 6th 2018 from 7-10pm\, which will include interactive dance and music performances. \nTickets are not required for this event. Admission is free and first come first serve. \nThe show will be on display through Feb 3rd 2018.

SUMMARY:New Work: Justin Fry and Jordan Domont
DESCRIPTION:New Work: Justin Fry and Jordan Domont \nOpening Reception: October 7th 7-10pm \nShows run through November 3rd \n  \nThis is a collection of paintings made by two close friends who have been working in many ways\, side by side for over a decade now.  They are excited to present new work together\, for the first time\, at Radiant Space\, and to be doing it now. From students to professionals\, they are eager to join forces one more time in an effort to at the very least\, take the piss out of each other. \n  \nTo infuse depth and luminosity into his work\, Jordan Domont employs a palette of punchy hues. Experimenting\, he discovered that when inks layer heavily onto Mylar\, it creates a rich\, almost melted effect. Pigments become slightly volatile\, even mercurial\, and their behavior enlivens the entire process. Jordan likes to explore how different amalgams of color work together\, because it sure trumps sitting back and watching paint dry. \n  \nIn contemporary life we are surrounded by excess and over-stimulation\, subject to the overwhelming flooding of our senses. This is the present condition that we are required to navigate\, one that results in a loss of sharpness of sensory experience. We have become a product of this heavily designed environment as it contributes to and constructs our belief systems and identities. Justin Fry’s work mixes key elements of these visual languages that reflect culture and that are used as beacons within the visual white noise that surrounds us throughout life.

SUMMARY:S.C.U.M Manifesto
DESCRIPTION:Exclusive preview of the S.C.U.M. Manifesto at Radiant Space\, Performed by Emma Agerwald – By invitation. Limited tickets will be available for sale. \nRSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/scum-manifesto-tickets-37496303453 \nThere will be a reception with complimentary beverages following the show. \nABOUT THE PERFORMANCE \nS.C.U.M Manifesto is a radical feminist manifesto by Valerie Solanas\, published in 1967. It argues that men have ruined the world\, and that it’s up to women to fix it \nThe piece centers around a woman taking charge. The character’s type of leadership is in the form of a furious and strategic warlord – a role in history dedicated to- and taken by men; men whom have been both feared and admired.\nSince S.C.U.M is female; the piece has been scandalized; obscured and under threat since it was first published. \nValerie Solanas can be perceived in many ways; as a comedic and intellectual genius; as a criminally insane genius… I see her as a woman who was a revolutionary and a master comedian dangling from the gallows of our deepest darkness and light – A woman challenging the corruptness of patriarchy with masterful irony and force. \nIn today’s climate\, it is fitting and necessary to revive this piece. S.C.U.M could serve as a great catalyst and a source of inspiration for many women and men. The intent is not to provoke the violence of Solanas’ language or character\, but to raise questions and stimulate discussions. \nWe invite you to join us in this thoughtful social discourse.

SUMMARY:The Divine Feminine Art Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The Divine Feminine Art Show \nSeptember 16th – October 4 \n  \nIn the spiritual dimension\, the Divine Feminine means valuing the feminine as an equally fundamental dynamic of the creative life force\, alone with the masculine. In the planetary dimension\, it means seeing Mother Earth as our Mother\, respecting her\, cultivating as a symbolic relationship with her as our ground of survival. In the human dimension\, it means recognizing the sacredness of all life\, our web of interconnection and community; and celebrating the wisdom of the exploration of the Divine Feminine\, artists Riley A. Polek-Davis and Makan Negahban share their own unique expression of Divine Femininity. \n  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \n  \nRiley A. Polek-Davis is a blossoming visionary artist who aims to produce a range of contemporary psychedelic fine art pieces for the masses. Her artwork dives deep into the sacred feminine essence\, energy\, and principle. Through her work she hopes to shed light not only on the beauty and power of women\, but the limitlessness of our existence\, equipped with the spirituality present in the human form. \n  \nMakan Negahban is an LA based fine art painter and music performer. His recent artwork showcases a transition from the verisimilitude of his ornate oil paintings to a series of minimalist\, brightly colored portraits using acrylics\, watercolors\, colored pencils and inks. This step away from realism questions what is of absolute necessity in portraiture\, and what can be omitted from a scene to achieve the desired effect. His goal has remained consistent throughout all periods of both his musical and artistic life: to effectively translate those sensations that are beyond the purview of our literal and prefrontal minds.

SUMMARY:Book of Emily Part One
DESCRIPTION:Book of Emily Part One\n– A One Woman Show – \nJoin us at Radiant Space for an evening of laughter and wisdom from the talented Emily Scott. \nSaturday August 19th\, 7:30pm\n$15 at the door (cash or credit card)\n$12 Discounted Artist Ticket \nA note from Emily on the performance: \n* A coming of age story turned on its head. A series of monologues/slam poetry- I dance around and through the truth of growing up. I become all the people I’ve been in order to please society. You see as my society changed\, I changed…. Through heartbreak and disappointments and talent and drive and depression\, I mold a show that is somewhat beautiful in it’s disfunction and hope and all the other things that life actually is. Women power\, truth power\, power of vulnerability\, inhabiting one’s body\, comedy and spirituality are some major themes. *

SUMMARY:Todd Anderson Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Inaugural solo exhibition at Radiant Space\, featuring Todd Anderson’s premiere art exhibition in Los Angeles \nAugust 12th – September 9th \n  \nVisit us during our gallery open hours\, or contact info@radiantspaceLA.com to book viewing appointments. \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nTodd Anderson studied art in New York and Paris\, receiving his BFA from The School of Visual Arts. He is well-regarded in the New York art world. His first Los Angeles exhibition will begin August 12th at Radiant Space. \nIn a further exploration of formal abstraction\, Anderson uses stage lighting in his new body of work as a reference point. Highlighting the individual versus a universal experience of witnessing a fleeting moment\, his paintings bring to light the classic notions of line\, color and form within a single frame. Utilizing a screen grab\, Anderson uses live concert footage as the starting point for this series. Some images have been taken from split second frames\, while others have developed from the visual familiarity of how light carries within a given space; providing a more imagined composition. \nThe bridge between analog and digital is a key factor within these works; an important dynamic of contemplation for this series.
